Sold for US$ 13,200 inc. premium
A Marilyn Monroe cocktail dress, 1950s
Hand-tailored in black silk, sleeveless with a plunging, gathered neckline and a back zipper; the bottom hem has weights sewn into the lining which kept the dress lying flat when worn; a Christie's New York lot tag is still pinned to the garment as it was originally intended to be sold in their 1999 auction titled "The Personal Property of Marilyn Monroe." (Please note this dress has some staining, fading, and tearing due to age, but is overall still intact.) Included is a reprinted black and white image of MM wearing a similar style dress (though it's not this one being offered).
