A composite officer's broadsword
probably late 17th century
Straight 28 inch double edged blade with double fullers and fullered ricasso, probably 19th century. Brass hilt comprising robust bilobate guard, the interiors and exteriors cast with neo-classical figures flanked by unicorns, the rims molded with putti; knucklebow slotted to pommel, the center molded with standing figure; ovoid pommel with standing figure and scrollwork. Grip, possibly associated, wrapped in three weights of brass wire.
Condition: Blade showing some light pitting. Hilt showing wear to decoration, the interior of the guard showing sharp detail and much gilt finish.
