A lot of two cut-steel small swords
late 18th/early 19th century
Comprising: 1) French example of fine quality, 34 inch blade of hollow triangular section with gilt panel above hilt etched with florals and motto Rien Ne M'Arrete (Nothing Stops Me). Hilt comprising pierced bilobate guard, quillon block with quillon and rings (knucklebow missing), pierced grip and pommel composed of spiraling bands with inner section covered in green velvet, the whole covered overall with tiny faceted beads. 2) 33 inch blade engraved with conventional foliage, darkened steel hilt with oval guard, straight quillons, faceted grip and urn-shaped pommel set with groups and bands of faceted beads.
Condition: 1) Blade with much original polish and some patches of pitting; hilt with dark patina, the knucklebow missing. 2) Associated blade showing some light pitting; hilt slightly loose, showing some light pitting and missing chain guard.
