A French small sword
early 18th century
The 32 3/4 inch colichemarde blade engraved with birds and scrollwork. Steel hilt comprising bilobate guard pierced with a design of branches and scrolls around central panels of flowers; knucklebow and quillon finial with deeply fluted scrollwork; hollow ovoid pommel decorated en suite to guard. Grips wrapped in alternating bands of plaited copper wire and copper tape with copper wire turk's heads.
Condition: Blade showing mottled patina and areas of light pitting. Hilt with even patina and some minor pitting. Grip wrapping slightly loose.
