The rectangular top inset with a tooled leather writing surface above a feather banded frieze mounted with Bacchus masks and fitted with three short paneled drawers raised on cabriole legs headed by espagnolette chutes and terminating in animal paw sabots.

  • Julius Zweiner was born in Silesia in 1848 and set up his cabinet shop in Paris in 1880, producing furniture with his own exuberant interpretations of the 18th century Rococo style, complemented with exquisite gilt bronze mounts made by the sculptor Leon Messange. Zweiner's work received a gold medal at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1889. In 1895 he left Paris to fulfill a commission to furnish the Schloss Neues Palais, San Souci, Potsdam for the German Emperor Wilhelm II.
