Footnotes

  • Charles Creese (1911- ) joined the Worcester factory in 1925 where his uncle, another Charles Creese, was a gilder and later a ground layer. Young Charlie spent his first year in the pattern room. He then went to the painting department working under the foremen William Hawkins and Harry Davis (1885-1970). Here he painted rural scenes and views of cathedrals, the offered lot being a good example of his work. Charlie later joined his uncle in the ground laying department.
