Footnotes

  • First used by Hillman in 1932, the Minx name continued on the company’s medium-sized saloon into the post-war era. The first Minx set the pattern for its successors, being more comfortable and better equipped than rival 10hp designs while offering a respectable turn of speed courtesy of its 1,185cc sidevalve engine. The De Luxe version constituted a particularly attractive package, ‘draughtless’ ventilation, sunshine roof, leather upholstery, ashtrays, cord door pulls, sun visor and dashboard clock being included in the comprehensive specification. A ‘V’ radiator was new for 1934, but the following year brought more significant changes; a lowered chassis frame improved passenger access while a four-speed all-synchromesh gearbox replaced the previous three-speeder. The original ‘upright’ model was superseded by a heavily revised and more modern looking version - badged as the ‘Minx Magnificent’ - in January 1936, this larger and heavier newcomer featuring a new box-section chassis frame and a restyled body offering increased passenger space. In this form the Minx continued in production up to the outbreak of WW2, when it was superseded by a new unitary construction model that would continue post-war, losing its first-gear synchro while gaining a restyled front end and opening boot along the way.
Described as in need of only very slight sympathetic re-commissioning, this Minx has been dry stored and appears in generally good order, although has not been run for some time.
