Lot Details
An Edwardian Deasy Four-Cylinder Motor Car Engine,
Engine no. 2441

Captain H.H.P. Deasy set up his Deasy Motor Car Manufacturing Co. Ltd., in Coventry in 1906, employing ex-Rover designer, E.W. Lewis, to build his first car. This was powered by a 4 ½ litre, side valve, monobloc engine at a time when monobloc units were comparatively rare. The company went on to offer a larger 8.6 litre unit but it was really the 2.9 litre car announced in 1909 which was the best earner for Deasy. We believe this engine may be one of those 2.9 litre engines. An external inspection shows this engine to be in an apparently good order, the monobloc unit featuring exposed side valves and being complete with inlet manifold and Zenith carburettor, fan assembly, magneto and water pump, starting handle and flywheel. There are also water jackets and priming cocks feature both in the cylinder block and in the inlet manifold. The engine is mounted upon a display cradle. Sold as viewed.
