Surmounted by a florally engraved brass handle, the triple pad topped break-arch case with moulded glazed arched side apertures and moulded door on a plinth base and block feet, the 6.5-inch arched brass dial with silvered rise and fall subsidiary over rococo spandrels and strike/silent lever, the signed solid silvered Roman dial with outer Arabic five-minute markers, blued steel hands and apertures for date and mock pendulum, the substantial signed twin gut fusee movement with anchor escapement, rack-striking on a bell and folding pendulum lock below the signature 42.5cm (16.75in) high.

  • Mudge and Dutton, recognized as the finest clock and watch making partnership of the late 18th century, worked from 148 Fleet Street between 1759 and 1790 and this clock is typical of their high grade work.

25% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £10,000 up to and including £450,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £450,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
