Footnotes

  • The Sea-Dweller and the Submariner models were all used by the French diving company Comex (Compagnie Maritime d'Expertise) and were issued to their specialist divers with each watch marked Comex on the dial and numbered on the rear. This watch was supplied to the current vendor by Comex and was used daily on dives up until 1989.

The current vendor started diving in the 1970’s and continued until the 1990’s. He worked all around the world as far away as the South China Seas, offshore Doha in the U.A.E and the North Sea. He worked off some of the largest platforms and rigs ever built, including the famous Piper Alfa, the Star Perseus, the Uncle John and the Stadive (pictured) The Stadive is the world's largest diving support vessel and featured two diving bells. On each descent there were three persons present; two Divers and a Bell Man, who was there should any of the divers get into difficulty. After each dive the diver would have to enter into his Log Book the time he left the surface, the time at the bottom including the depth, the date, location, vessel, work undertaken and then each entry was officially stamped with that of the Comex Safety Department.

This watch comes with five 'Professional Divers Log Books' dating from 1979 to 1989, a 'Divers Certificate of Competence', and a 'Diving Supervisor’s Certificate' both from Comex Houlder Diving Limited, also three official photographs showing the Stadive, one of its diving Bells, and the current vendor holding an RCV during maintenance work in the North Sea, together with spare links and a Rolex fitted box. To the best of our knowledge this watch is the first to be offered at auction complete with divers logs books, certificates and rare photographs.
