the Brescia marble top above a central frieze drawer inlaid with arches. above two trellis veneered drawers decorated sans-traverses, fitted with ring drop handles and ribbon-tied key hole escutcheons, the curved mirrored-back sides with three shelves, each surmounted by a pierced brass gallery, on stripe veneered circular tapering legs, 147cm wide, 62cm deep, 88.5cm high (57.5in wide, 24in deep, 34.5in high).

  • Commodes à l'anglaise, with open shelves to the sides, were introduced in the 1770s and enjoyed considerable popularity among the English aristocracy. This commode relates to pieces supplied by the celebrated marchand-mercier Dominique Daguerre (d.1796) who retailed objets de luxe to the French Court and, after the Revolution, to the English nobility.

Buyers' Premium and Charges

Buyer's Premium Rates
27.5% on the first £2,500 of the hammer price;
25% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £2,500 up to and including £300,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £300,000 up to and including £3,000,000;
and 13.9% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £3,000,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
