Footnotes

  • Related flowers occur on many North Devon sgraffito jugs including an example dated 1807 in the Longridge collection, fig. S86, and another dated 1806 in the Glaisher Collection, no 73, plate 8c. Some have been ascribed to the potter George Fishley. It is interesting to note that another jug bearing the same verse as on the present jug was also made for customers in Aberystwyth. This later specimen, in the Potteries Museum, is inscribed 'Iohn & Ann Edwards/Aberiswyth/October 24th 1835', see David Barker, Slipware, p. 21
