A rare early Bow porcelain vase
circa 1750
Of slender baluster shape, everted at the rim and spreading at the foot, painted in 'famille rose' style with trailing peony plants and a pierced rock, a bird perched on a tree branch above, a formal lambrequin frieze at the shoulder comprising a cell border reserved with scroll-edged cartouches containing alternately Chinese landscapes 'en grisaille' and florets, large pendant bell flowers in between, further trailing peonies and birds in flight around the neck, 20.4cm high, incised line mark to base (fine crack under base, minor wear to enamels)
