A Lowestoft teapot and cover

circa 1775
Of globular shape with a domed cover, pointed finial and a distinctive curved spout, painted in 'Tulip Painter' style with large mixed sprays and smaller sprigs of flowers in shades of pink and orange, including lilies and roses, a gilt stylised flower on the finial, 13.3cm high (2)

The distinctive profile of this pot with its curved spout is peculiar to Lowestoft, the earliest examples having a more flattened cover, see the blue and white example in the Norwich Castle Museum inscribed 'Ieas Fisher' and dated 1769, illustrated by Sheenah Smith (1975), item 583. Two slightly later examples, similar to the present, lot are illustrated by Sheenah Smith (1985), items 320 and 321

Buyers' Premium and Charges

Buyer's Premium Rates
27.5% on the first £20,000 of the hammer price;
26% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £20,000 up to and including £700,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £700,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
