Footnotes

  • Provenance: Christie's, 11 February 1991, lot 62 and formerly in the Nightingale collection, no 221. This fine decoration has in the past been attributed to J H O'Neale although it is more likely to be the work of a pupil working in O'Neale's style. It is likely that only a single service was made. The tea canister from the service was sold in the Zorensky collection, part 1, 19 March 2004, lot 192. For the teapot see Hobson (1910), pl. 81. Other pieces are illustrated by Hobson (1923), fig. 351, Sandon (1993), p. 199 and Rissik Marshall (1954), fig 586
