Footnotes

  • Fritz Rasp (1891-1976) began his career as a member of Max Reinhardt's theatre in Berlin. In 1915 he was given his first minor film role, and by the 1920's he had become a leading character actor in the films of Fritz Lang and other leading German directors. In addition to Metropolis, he appeared in nearly one hundred films during his career, including The Love of Jeanne Ney (1927), Spione (1928), The Girl in the Moon and The Diary of a Lost Girl (1929), as the pickpocket in Emil and the Detectives (1931). His last film for the big screen was Lina Braake in 1974.

G.W. Pabst, who directed Rasp in Die Liebe der Jeanne Ney (1927), wrote of him "Of all the actors in my movie... Fritz Rasp was the one who pleased me most. He looked like a veritable scoundrel... I forgot that an actor was in front of me".
