Nickel plated 18 jewel movement with patented Super-balance, silvered dial with applied faceted baton markers, outer calibrated blue date ring with central indicator hand, apertures for day and month indicators, moon-phase aperture within subsidiary seconds, large polished case with inset calendar adjusters to the band, snap-on-back and down-turned lugs on leather strap, case, dial and movement signed diameter 38mm.

  • The reference 8171 was made in a small series between 1949 and 1952. One of only two moonphase calendar watches made by the Rolex Watch Company, the larger 38mm diameter 8171, as offered here, is considered among the most sought after Rolex models by collectors.
