Finely painted with the same scene on both sides, showing an owl with large circular eyes with central dots, a small 'v' for the beak, the folded wing with diagonal striations for the feathers, the body and head highlighted with dots, flanked by a sprig of laurel on either side, a reserved band along the baseline, 5¾in (14.5cm) diam between handles
