An impressive mid-19th century flame mahogany armoire
stamped W.Williamson & Son, Guildford
The shaped moulded cornice with central cresting of rocaille scrolls, with canted corners, over a pair of shaped panel doors with foliate carving, enclosing an interior with drawers and shelves, the base of bombe form with two short and two long graduated drawers incorporating elaborate pierced gilt metal handles, with a shaped apron, on carved claw feet. 204cm wide x 65cm deep x 255cm high, (80in wide x 25.5in deep x 100in high)

  • A number of pieces of good quality have been noted with the impressed stamp of William Williamson & Sons, Guilford, Surrey. Most examples are in George III or Regency form. Amongst items so stamped are Pembroke tables, one being in satinwood, a rosewood cross banded sofa table, writing tables, one in tambour form, a chest of drawers, commodes, cabinets, secretaires, a secretaire bookcase and bow fronted and serpentine sideboards. The firm were based at Black Horse Lane from 1790-96 and Chapel Street from 1822-1840.

and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
