Footnotes

  • The prototype for the present posthumous portrait of Frederick the Great is a work by Daniel Chodowiecki dated 1777. A watercolour version was sold in these rooms, 22 November 2006, lot 113.

A Franz Schutz and a Fritz Schutze are both recorded by Nevill Jackson, however their flourishing dates make them unlikely to be the artist responsible for the present lot.
