  • Sir Thomas Austin was born on 20th July 1887 and was the son of Reverend T.Austin R.N.. He was educated at Plymouth College and at Jesus College Cambridge. He entered the Indian Civil Service in 1910 and was posted to Madras in 1911; Asst Resident in Travancore and Cochin 1915-17; Military Duty 1918-19; Collector C and M Station, Bangalore 1922-24. Chairman Assam LAbour Board 1924-28; called to the Bar, Gray's Inn, 1931; Dewan of Travancore, 1932-34; Registrar of Co-operative Societies, Madras 1934-38; Member of the Board of Revenue 1938-40; Chief Secretary to Government of Madras, 1940. Adviser to Governor of Madras 1941-46; retired from ICS 1946. Prime Minister of Kolhapur State 1946-47. Died 1976. He was also the Great Grandson of Felicia Hemens (Poetess) 1793-1835. Portraits of both are in the National Gallery.

Buyers' Premium and Charges

For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:

Buyer's Premium Rates
27.5% on the first £20,000 of the hammer price;
26% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £20,000 up to and including £700,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £700,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
