1927 Austin Pick-up Truck
Registration no. SV 6976
Chassis no. 3TC3899
Engine no. 25236L
Such was the Twelves reputation for durability that it was used for a number of commercial variants and became the London cab-drivers favourite, enjoying an extended lease of life in this role that lasted well into the 1930s and beyond. After the introduction of the six-cylinder Light Twelve, the model became known as the Heavy Twelve Four.
This superb Heavy Twelve Four was reconstructed in the UK as a pick-up truck (with stake-side bed) using a tired Windsor saloon as the basis. In the vendors possession since 2004, it was rebuilt in the 1990s from a bare chassis incorporating new suspension bushes, shackles, bearings, kingpins and brake linings, while the engine incorporates numerous new parts including the main and big-end bearings, pistons, valves, valve guides and an overhauled oil pump. In addition, the electrical system has been up-rated to 12 volts and coil ignition fitted while retaining the original magneto. The original artillery wheels and lighting set also are retained. Exhibiting a high standard of workmanship throughout, this fully restored vehicle boasts a positively luxurious interior for a vintage commercial and possesses considerable potential for film and television work. It is offered with restoration invoices and Swansea V5 registration document.
