The handsome 16/50 Doctors Coupé of 1927 illustrated the direction Rover was taking. It reflected the market Rover would make its own, and even though it was one of the heaviest Rovers ever, it carried the reassurance of a car built to last. It was designed to appeal to reputable members of the community, professional opinion-formers, in this case doctors. It was a car with doors that closed with the convincing clunk of a railway carriage, interiors trimmed with wood and leather, and an instrument panel with clear clock-faces. It had furnishings that looked like those in a doctors sitting room or even a consulting room, door cappings with fine inlays, and door pockets with leather flaps like giant tobacco pouches. The Doctors Coupé was a car for strong men in plus-four tweed who preferred things built to last. Eric Dymock, Rover: The First Ninety Years. The car offered here DF 2826 is the actual one illustrated in Eric Dymocks book (page 51). Its accompanying old-style logbook shows three owners: Rover Co Ltd (1972), Leyland Historic Vehicles Ltd (1976) and finally BL Heritage Ltd (no date). Also included in the file is a letter from Cyril Pritchard explaining the circumstances of the cars purchase and restoration. Not operated for ten years, DF 2826 is reported as in generally good condition although in need of re-commissioning. The vehicle possesses a Swansea V5 registration document.

Buyers' Premium and Charges
Like the vast majority of auctioneers Bonhams charge what is known as a Buyer's Premium. Buyer's Premium on all Automobilia lots will adhere to Bonhams group policy:
25% up to £50,000 of hammer price, 20% from £50,001 to £1,000,000 of hammer price, and 12% on the balance thereafter. This applies to each lot purchased and is subject to VAT.
For Motor Cars and Motorcycles a 15% Buyer's Premium is payable on the first £50,000 of the final Hammer Price of each Lot, and 12% on any amount by which the Hammer Price exceeds £50,000. VAT at the standard rate is payable on the Premium by all Buyers, unless otherwise stated.
Some lots may be subject to VAT on the Hammer Price. These lots will be clearly marked with the relevant symbol printed beside the lot number in the catalogue.
