Lot 52*
A good Worcester teapot and cover circa 1765

Sold for £ 816 (US$ 1,020) inc. premium
A good Worcester teapot and cover
circa 1765
of baluster shape with a pointed finial, painted in Chinese style with a very stylised cornucopia of flowers and a curious insect, within narrow gold quatrelobed panels surrounded by sprigs and further formal insects, a similar quatrelobed panel repeated on the cover and with 'crowsfoot' borders in red and gold, 14.4cm (5 5/8in) high (one very small chip to tip of spout only) (2)

Footnotes

  • This is very similar is design to lot 60 in this sale, and again the colouring is unusual. The gold used for the lobed panels is somewhat thin, further suggesting this could be the work of an outside decorator. An original kiln firing fault on the spout indicates that this may have been a 'second', sold from the Worcester factory in the white.
