One of the most readily recognised cars of the 1960s, thanks in part to countless appearances in films and on television, Jaguars seminal Mk2 saloon set the standard for the class throughout its entire production life and today remains highly prized by enthusiasts. With the advent of the Mk2, the 3.8-litre version of Jaguars XK six became available for the first time in the companys medium-sized saloon, which in top-of-the-range, 3.8-litre, manual/overdrive configuration was a genuine 125mph car capable of reaching 60mph in 8.5 seconds, outstanding figures for a saloon of its size even by todays standards. This superb right-hand drive Mk2 boasts the ultimate, 3.8-litre, manual/overdrive, specification. The vendor advises us that the car underwent a complete last nut and bolt restoration over a four-year period between 1993 and 1998 (video available). Work carried out included taking the bodyshell back to bare metal prior to repainting, and completely reconditioning the engine, gearbox and rear axle. New 72-spoke chromed wire wheels shod with new Avon tyres have been fitted, while the front brakes have been upgraded with Zeus 4-pot calipers. The interior has been completely re-trimmed, all woodwork re-lacquered and a matching Motolita steering wheel fitted. The front seats recline and their seatbelts have Jaguar-logo buckles. On completion the cars underside was treated with 10 litres of Waxoyl preservative and remains - we are advised - as good today as it was then. Finished in British Racing Green with dark green-piped beige leather interior, the latter retaining its original (working) radio, this concours award-winning car is offered with full original tool kit, heritage certificate, MoT to July 2007, current road fund licence and Swansea V5 registration document.
