Footnotes

  • The Arrows Formula 1 team was established in November 1977 by Italian financier Franco Ambrosio (A), driver/team manager Alan Rees (R), driver Jackie Oliver (O), and designers Dave Wass (W) and Tony Southgate (S), a break-away group from the pre-existing Shadow organization.
The first Arrows A1 Formula 1 car was built in just 53 days, and made its debut driven by Riccardo Patrese in the 1977 Brazilian Grand Prix, finishing 10th. Patrese scored Arrows’ first World Championship points at Long Beach in only their third race. Arrows raced on through the 1980s, ultimately with the budding young engineer Ross Brawn heading their technical design and development – this brilliant technician now playing such a starring corresponding role with Michael Schumacher at Ferrari today…
The Arrows team was officially renamed Footwork – after its Japanese primary sponsor - for 1991. The season began with A11C chassis with custom-built new 3.5-litre V12 Porsche engines but after neither driver qualified in the Brazilian Grand Prix the prototype new Footwork FA12 appeared but was then destroyed when its suspension failed in Tamburello Corner at the Imola circuit – driver Michele Alboreto escaping with a broken foot. Team-mate Alex Caffi then damaged a second new car at Monte Carlo and after he was injured in a road accident he was replaced the talented Swedish star, Stefan Johansson.
In June 1991 the team decided to replace the Porsche engines with Brian Hart-prepared Cosworth-Ford DFR V8 power units. We understand that this car is a V8-powered machine fitted with a sequential gearbox and is said to be in generally good, complete condition after having been preserved on display for several years in a Scandinavian museum. It is sold strictly as viewed.
