A rare late 18th century French painted travelling stick barometer
The hinged case opening to reveal the white ground entitled 'Barometre Portatif' with visible tube recessed into the trunk on the right hand side and a similarly recessed thermometer to the left hand side, each marked with various towns and dates to mark high and low points in the barometric history of Paris ranging in date from 1709 to 1778, the outer skin of the case painted with four multi coloured floral sprigs to each side 97.5cm (38.5in) high.
