An interesting mahogany portable stick barometer with timepiece, in the manner of Daniel Quare
The watch movement by George Etherington, but probably made in the late 19th or early 20th century
The gilt engraved brass hood surmounted by three finials, the two outer ones rotating in order to move the recording pins set either side of the glass tube below, the trunk reeded to the upper part and spirally twisted to the lower section on a tall rectangular plinth, each section divided by a brass collar, the whole supported on four shaped folding cabriole legs, the two part silvered dial marked for 'Very dry/Hard Frost; Settld Fair/Setld Frost; FAIR/FROST; Vari/able; RAIN/SNOW
Mch.Rain/Mch.Snow; Storm/Tempest; set apart from the watch above by a horizontal section carrying the legend "Tompion London/Invenit/Et Fecit" within running foliage, the Roman and arabic timepiece dial above signed Etherington in the scroll-decorated centre, the dial protected by a glazed door and further set into a hinged mask to allow for either winding or hand setting, although also set with a hinged door to the rear 114cm (45in) high.

25% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £2,500 up to and including £300,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £300,000 up to and including £3,000,000;
and 13.9% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £3,000,000.
