Lacking final blank and blank following part I. This copy without the inserted 6-leaf account of Drake's circumnavigation. Folio (288 x 182 mm). Modern morocco blindstamped in period style. Expert paper restorations at gutter head of title-page (affecting first letter), and gutter of first 8 leaves, and final approximately two dozen leaves (affecting some headline rules and with loss of several words in the table), E1 misbound after E6, mild soiling to title and to colophon; map creased at outer edge, on a later stub, and with some Japanese-tissue support to verso.

First edition of the first English collection of voyages, first issue of the Bowes leaves (pp 491-499), these written in the first person. "An invaluable treasure of nautical information" (Church). "Hakluyt with his collection of exemplary English voyages served the historic function of propagandist for English mercantilism and colonial expansion" (Streeter).
