A magnificent pair of Meissen pug dogs on ormolu bases
circa 1745
modelled Kändler, the bitch suckling a puppy, the dog wearing a patterned orange and red collar with a green bow applied with gilded bells, the dogs with finely painted coats and facial features, mounted on heavy gilt bronze bases specially made for these models as padded cushions on Chinese scroll feet enriched with dog chains around the rims, the dog 24.2cm high, the bitch 22.7cm excluding bases, the dog with faint crossed swords mark and impressed 44 (some restoration and losses) (4)
