A magnificent pair of Sèvres-style vases and covers
mid 19th century
ovoid, with gadrooned necks, foliate moulding around the lips, the upswept scroll handles applied with faux pearls, swags, foliate terminals and D rings, the deep blue ground reserved with large finely painted panels in Boucher style, one with Venus surrounded by an attendant nymph, Cupid and putti riding the waves, the other with a similar scene in the clouds, the reverse with large flower bouquets, the rims jewelled in red, green, turquoise and white, all richly gilt, the mouldings also picked out in gold, assembled with gilt metal beading, plain bands, plinths and pinecone finials, 84cm high, pseudo Sèvres marks (some restoration to handles and covers, minor wear) (4)
