Éragny, full name Éragny-sur-Epte, is a small town in the Picardie region of Normandy, France. Lucien Pissarro's family moved to the area in the spring of 1884 when he was 21. Both Lucien and his father, Camille, were inspired by the surrounding countryside and produced many paintings of the region.

Lucien divided his time between Paris and Normandy before settling in London in 1890. Camille died at the family home in Éragny in 1903 and his mother continued to live there until her death in 1926. The last known painting of the area by Lucien is Usine de Saint Victor, Éragny in 1919 (see Anne Thorold, A Catalogue of the Oil Paintings of Lucien Pissaro, London, 1983, cat.no.300, p.144).

As well as painting, Pissarro had a great interest in printmaking and founded The Éragny Press in London in 1894 with his wife Esther. The press produced over thirty books before it closed in 1914.
