STUART DEVLIN : An unusual silver ladle on stand,
London 1967,
the double lipped bowl with an elliptical shaped top and base, with polished flared and tapering sides, with a mahogany handle, on a circular stand, the light bark-effect textured sides centred with an elliptical welled centre, length of ladle 29.5cm, weight total 6.5oz.

  • Stuart Devlin presented this gift in September 1967 to the present vendor when he was best man at their wedding.
    This very personal gift is believed to have been made during 1959 / 1960 while they studied Industrial Design at the RCA.
    Stuart Devlin was born in Geelong, Australia in 1931.
    Devlin was awarded three scholarships in 1958 which took him to the Royal College of Art in London.
    Spending two years in America he then returned to Australia. On his return to London Devlin set up a workshop in Clerkenwell in 1965. The following year he employed his first craftsman.

Buyers' Premium and Charges

For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:

Buyer's Premium Rates
27.5% on the first £10,000 of the hammer price;
25% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £10,000 up to and including £450,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £450,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
