Footnotes

  • Rod Kelly was born in Reading, Berkshire in 1956. He trained at Birmingham Polytechnic and at the Royal College of Arts under Professor Gerald Benney, graduating in 1983. In 1985, he was commissioned by The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths to produce a water jug. The 'trout' theme of this jug subsequently inspired further commissions by outside patrons.

Among some of his first exhibitions was a series held in 1987, which included one at Garrards.
Kelly works almost exclusively to commission and this has included pieces for 10 Downing Street, the Victoria and Albert Museum, De Beers, many City livery companies as well as a wide variety of commissions from patrons, private and ecclesiastical.

In 1999, Kelly was commissioned by The Royal Mint to design a first class stamp to celebrate the Millennium. One of his latest commissions was the design for the obverse of the £2 coin, commemorating the 200th anniversary of Isambard Kingdom Brunel's birth.
