finely painted on a metal plaque, the reverse inscribed Z.I.518, behind a mica sheet and encased within a filigree and parcel gilt case, the borders applied with repoussé flowers and pastes, and decorative cloisonné enamel plaques13 x 10.6 cm. (5 1/8 x 4 1/4 in.)

Sergei Ivanovich Vashkov, 1879-1914, was one of the major artists of the neo-Russian style. Primarily a designer of ecclesiastical material, he was head designer for Olovianishikov and Sons, Moscow. He taught at the Stroganov School of Art.

27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
