1964 Aston Martin DB5 Saloon
Registration no. BDA 200B
Chassis no. DB5/1681/R
Engine no. 400/1666
Finished in California Sage blue with black leather interior, ‘BDA 200B’ has the desirable five-speed gearbox. The car was first registered to Cyril Williams Motors, of Wolverhampton on 8th July 1964 and next to Arthur White of the Midland Counties Dairy, also of Wolverhampton. Its third owner recorded in the accompanying original old-style logbook is one Alan Simpson, of Sutton Coldfield and the fourth Lord Cranworth, of Cotswold Park, Cirencester. It would appear that Lord Cranworth sold the car in 1969 to the Banham International Motor Museum in Norfolk, from whose dispersal sale the current owner acquired it in June 1982. We are advised that an accompanying MoT certificate dated 1969 records the mileage at that time as circa 47,000. By the time of purchase in 1982, the total had risen to only 49,471, indicating minimal use while in the Museum’s care. While in its present ownership the car has been kept roadworthy but seen relatively little use, only a few thousand miles being added to the total displayed which now stands at a little over 52,000. The only major service work required during the current ownership has been the fitting of a new twin-plate clutch and flywheel ten years ago. As a consequence of its somewhat unusual pattern of ownership, ‘BDA 200B’ has been preserved in remarkably original condition. Never rebuilt or restored in over 40 years, it represents an increasingly rare opportunity to acquire an unmolested DB5 maintained in good running condition, though in need of a little cosmetic ‘TLC’. The vehicle is offered with 1982 auction catalogue description, tool kit, factory workshop manual, current road fund licence, MoT to 26th August 2005 and Swansea V5 registration document.
