Footnotes

  • Note: Albert Rogall, 1827-1904, entered the service in October of 1861 by raising his own company, Captain Rogall's Company, 54th Ohio Infantry Regiment, later re-named Company G. Entering the rolls as a lieutenant, he was elected Captain of the company in January of 1862. One record in his service file notes that he was a graduate of one of the Prussian Military Institutions and served as an Officer on many a bloody field in Europe. He was severely wounded at the Battle of Shiloh on April, 6, 1862 where he was shot through the lung. Taken to a rebel hospital and was there informed he must die of his wounds. He was afterward rescued... by Union troops. He later served with the 118th and 27th United States Colored Troops.
