A fine rhinoceros horn carving of Wenshu on a lion
17th/18th Century
The serene deity posed astride her fantastic beast, the figure clad in diaphanous robes setting off her high chignon and plaited locks framing her diminuitive features, her left hand in vitarka mudra, her other resting on her knee, the crouching lion resting on outstretched paws and sinewy tail floating on a blanket of swirling clouds (loss to one finger, restoration to base).
