Footnotes

  • Provenance:
Property from the Collection of Robert and Madeline Dickerman, Los Angeles, California

    Note:
This art piece is a fragment from the massive 73 feet fresco mural, executed by the artist in 1951/52 and commissioned for the Waikiki branch of the First National Bank of Hawaii. The subject of Jean Charlot's fresco mural depicts, in six scenes, the early cultural exchanges between Hawaii and the outer world. Before the demolition of the bank in 1966, the mural was divided into seventy sections which were then signed by the artist and subsequently sold. This piece was purchased by the present owner in 1966.
