1933 Mercedes Benz Replica
Rat Race
Paramount, 2001
A replica 1933 Mercedes 770k convertible, built on a 1935 Lincoln chassis. Original drive train V12 Flathead engine, 3-speed manual transmission. This car was built by Premiere Studio Rentals.

This film follows in the tradition of 1963s It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. A group of the world’s wealthiest men have nothing better to do than to invent strange things to bet on. Casino operator Donald Sinclair (John Cleese) comes up with the idea of choosing six sets of people at random and putting them together in a race to reach $2,000,000 stored in a locker in Silver City, New Mexico.

This is the #1 Hero car driven in the film by Jon Lovitz. Jon and family are evidently Jewish. His pre-teen daughter spies a sign on the freeway that reads “Barbie” museum. They pull in but it turns out to be the Klaus Barbie, as in ”The Butcher of Lyon,” museum, the center piece of which is Hitler’s 1933 Mercedes staff-car/limousine. A group of skinheads takes umbrage to their presence, so they flee in Hitler’s limo, and hit the highway, swastikas flying.
