Munster Drag-U-La Replica
CBS, 1964-1966
A replica of the Munsters Drag-U-la built by Keith Dean and Jim Johnson of Barris Kustom. This unique, driving car was made through the use of original photographs and with George Barris consulting.
The drag-U-la has a V8 engine and hot rod-styled suspension. Painted in gold powder and candy colors.
This quirky yet extremely popular, shall we say, cultishly so, sit-com ran to 70 episodes over its two years in prime time. The Munsters lived at 1313 Mockingbird Lane, with Herman (a Frankenstein look-alike), as the head of the family, his goth and much adored wife Lily, Grandpa (the vampire) and the children Marilyn and Eddie. The Munsters may have looked pretty strange and they definitely got a lot of zest out of life (just look at their ride Drag-U-la), but the show (set dressings and costumes aside) was a strong exponent of traditional middleclass American values.
