1941 Lincoln Zephyr 3-Passenger Coupe
Chassis no. H109917
Body Style 16H-72-145
The Lincoln-Zephyr debuted for the 1936 model year and was instantly heralded for its stunning shape. It was streamlined and sleek, as well as beautifully sculpted with headlights fared into the front fenders. The design was by Bob Gregory, with more than a little guidance from Lincoln president Edsel Ford.

Redesigned for 1940, the Zephyr retained its external identity but benefited from a much larger glass area, the absence of running boards and sealed beam headlamps.

Beneath that stunning exterior was a larger 292 cid flat-head V-12 rated at 120 bhp. The three-speed manual transmission featured a column-mounted shift lever and took the power aft to the solid rear axle. The ladder-type chassis used transverse leaf springs front and rear, while brakes were hydraulic drums all around.

The 1941 Lincoln-Zephyr was offered in a half-dozen body styles: 3-passenger coupe, 5-passenger coupe, 4-door sedan, 2-door convertible coupe, 2-door club coupe and 4-door Brunn Town Car. Many students of automobile design would argue that the Lincoln Zephyr 3-passenger coupe was the most beautiful American car of its day. And few would argue that it has aged exceedingly well.

Built October 4, 1940 and shipped on October 8, 1940, documentation from the Henry Ford Museum includes a copy of the original line ticket, H109917, for sales order number 885962. This stunning black 1941 Zephyr 2-door, 3-passenger coupe was custom-ordered with a tan leather interior with gold trim. The leather also extends to include the headliner.

Restored approximately two years ago, mechanically it appears to be perfect, and the undercarriage has been beautifully restored and detailed. To combat the Lincoln-Zephyr’s penchant for overheating, this V-12 is fitted with special high-flow water pumps and a discretely-mounted 6-volt electric fan. The car is also equipped with factory optional oil-bath air cleaner. It also comes with its original heater and radio—both of which are fully-functional.

The vendor estimates that the car has probably been driven fewer than 200 miles since restoration. A car that will consistently score in the high 90-point range, the body work and black paint is to the highest possible standard. The bright work is in very good to excellent condition

This truly lovely Zephyr is an exceptional example of one of this country’s most beloved prewar classics. Extremely few 3-passenger coupes can exist in this marvelous and eye-catching condition.
