An Emmy Award - Jack Benny 1960-61
A gold colored, metal statuette of a winged woman with globe, on a large circular base. Very light pitting, but the gold finish is exceptional, and unrestored. The statuette bears the inscription: "The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences /1960-61 Awards Period /Outstanding Program Achievement in the Field of Humor / The Jack Benny Show / CBS".

Jack Benny started in vaudeville before moving to radio. In 1950 he was lured to CBS and the new medium of television with the Jack Benny Show which made him one of America's most beloved entertainers. The "Jack Benny Show," was a revolutionary program. Benny played a parallel version of himself, Jack Benny the television star. "His myriad shortcomings were mercilessly exposed every week by his supporting cast ... The interaction between this protaganist and his fellow cast members turned the Jack Benny Show into a forum for human absurdity and affection ... The Benny character managed to transcend ethnicity and sexuality rather than deny them. Beneath his quickly lifted arrogant facade lurked an American Everyman. The Jack Benny Show was also the first and only program of its day to depict Americans of mixed races living and working side by side." One of the most important Emmys to come to auction.
