1960 (ca) Morris Minor Convertible

The Morris Minor was the work of BMC's brilliant design engineer Alex Issigonis and appeared on the market in late 1949. A unibody design, the small British car used a modern independent front suspension, rack-and-pinion steering and unibody construction. At first it also used a prewar sidevalve engine diplacing 918.6cc. The paltry 27.5 horsepower didnt make for a very fast car, but it certainly was economical, capable of sipping gasoline at the rate of 35-40 miles per gallon.

In 1953, the little Morris received a minor change to its displacement when it was given an 803cc overhead valve engine. Gradual updates were made to the body and interior and in 1959 a bigger 948cc version of the overhead valve A-Series engine was dropped into the engine bay. Performance was increased and the Minor became an altogether more usable car.

One lovely version that was less usable but certainly was significantly more enjoyable was the convertible, which was offered almost from the onset of production. Today, these small open cars are among the most coveted of all Morris Minors.

This dark blue Morris Minor convertible is an unrusted, low-mileage example of a very popular modern classic. Having covered just 52,997 miles since new, it wears its original dark blue paint, black interior and convertible top. With a full service and checks of the braking system, this little Minor should be capable of many happy miles.
