Builder of the last British-made machine to win the Lightweight 250 TT, New Imperial was unsurpassed for innovation during the 1930s, with models featuring pivoted fork rear suspension and unit construction of engine and gearbox. Two new introductions for 1935 were the models 70 and 80, both of which were unit construction 500cc singles with inclined cylinders, the former having overhead valves the latter being a sidevalve, sharing identical cycle parts. The 70 was soon updated with a modified cylinder barrel enclosing the push-rods in a cast-in tunnel while the ’head featured positive lubrication of the valve gear. In 1936 a twin-port sports version - the Model 76 - was added to the range. In De Luxe form the 76 came with foot-change gearbox, mag-dyno electrics and other enhancements, and remained in production up to WW2. This Model 76DL has been in Denmark since new and was acquired from its original owner by the vendor when the former became too old to ride it. Restored by the current owner, it has covered only a handful of miles since completion. Reported as in very good condition and running well, the machine is only being sold to make room for other projects.
