Footnotes

  • Although recognisably related to the Touring-styled DB4 of 1958, the DB6 abandoned the Superleggera body structure of its predecessors in favour of a conventional steel fabrication, while externally the most noticeable innovation was the adoption of Kamm-style tail with aerodynamic spoiler. ‘The tail lip halves the aerodynamic lift around maximum speed and brings in its train greater headroom and more luggage space,’ revealed Motor magazine, concluding that the DB6 Vantage was one of the finest sportscars it had tested. ‘In an effortless way that few other cars can match, the DB6 makes an overall speed limit of 70mph look quite ridiculous. At its maximum speed of more than twice this, it is reassuringly stable, probably more so than many cars struggling to maintain their 70mph convoy speed. If you need to stop from high speed the brakes are outstandingly powerful, a point which really needs remembering if there is a less well endowed vehicle behind; and the handling in both wet and dry conditions is superior to all but a couple of the production two-seater sportscars we have tested.’
A right-hand drive model equipped with the desirable five-speed manual transmission, this DB6 Vantage was sold new in the UK to first owner Mr V J Blumenfeld and comes with a copy of the original warranty document. The vehicle was acquired by its second owner, Mr S P Schein, in 1987 and comprehensively refurbished by Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd at Newport Pagnell in 1988/89. Work carried out at that time included a complete engine rebuild, and the car is accompanied by AML’s detailed invoice for £20,363 in addition to assorted other service invoices. By December 2000 the car was in the hands of third owner Guy Grinberg, who commissioned expert Christian Huet, of Paris, to carry out an appraisal of its condition and value, a copy of which (dated 12th December 2000) is included. Finished in British Racing Green with freshly re-trimmed (2005) tan leather interior, the car affords the considerable convenience of air conditioning and is offered with French Carte Grise and Swansea V5 registration document.
