1996 Italjet 50cc Paddock Scooter
Registration no. N655 NGO
Frame no. 056287
Engine no. 044A
This Italjet 50cc ‘twist ’n go’ scooter was used as paddock transport by Damon Hill during his World Championship-winning Formula One Grand Prix season in 1996, when the Englishman was a works driver with the Williams-Renault team. A motorcycle courier at the start of the 1980s, Damon first tried his hand at motorcycle racing in 1983, winning 40 races in one year before turning to four wheels. After a successful debut in Formula Ford he graduated to Formula 3 and then Formula 3000 before landing the job of test driver with Williams in 1992. The following year he stepped up to full time F1 competition, scoring three victories and finishing third in the Drivers’ World Championship for Williams. The following two seasons saw Damon finish second in the Championship on both occasions before he finally emulated his famous father Graham by securing the World Championship in 1996 with eight victories and a total of 97 points.
Finished in the Williams-Renault Team’s Rothmans sponsor’s livery, the scooter is offered with a letter of authentication dated 26th March 1999 from Williams F1 Team Manager, David Stanford, confirming that it was the team’s property during 1996 and was ridden by Damon Hill at the British Grand Prix meeting at Silverstone.
