Footnotes

  • F1 was the first registration number issued in Essex, and it belongs to Essex County Council. It has always been used on the council chairman's car and was first registered to a Panhard-Levassor on January 1, 1904. It has appeared on a fleet of cars from a Darracq Torpedo, a Humber, a Daimler and a Jaguar Sovereign and was last seen on a Volvo S80.

In a recent press statement, Essex County Council leader Lord Hanningfield said "The number plate is obviously an interesting part of Essex's history but I am committed to investing in our future and we plan to create a charitable fund from the sale of F1 that will support the council's work with the children of Essex."
