A rare Mido gold 'Bugatti' wristwatch presented to Elizabeth Junek, Swiss, 1925,
a gift from Ettore Bugatti in the form of a Bugatti radiator with red enamelled EB badge, silvered dial with Arabic numerals, blued steel hands, 12 o'clock crown wind, 15 jewel movement number 4099, 18ct gold casing serial number 200782, with the reverse engraved 6.VI.1925 E J, fitted with black leather Mido strap on wire lugs, offered for sale with a later Bugatti watch case and four large detailed colour photographs of the watch.

  • Mido records confirm that this particular watch was from the first of the four series they produced, a batch of 54 pieces with serial numbers 200736-200789 inclusive produced in 1925-26,. The three later series, two in gold and one in silver, were produced between about 1930 and 1932, and were each of twelve pieces, of the 90 watches produced only about 10 are believed to have survived to the present day. These watches were commissioned by Ettore Bugatti from Mido and given as gifts to his racing drivers and later to principal members of his factory staff. Other leading Bugatti racing drivers known to have been given these watches include Louis Chiron and Rene Dreyfus.

Buyers' Premium and Charges

Like the vast majority of auctioneers Bonhams charge what is known as a Buyer's Premium. Buyer's Premium on all Automobilia lots will adhere to Bonhams group policy:

25% up to £50,000 of hammer price,
20% from £50,001 to £1,000,000 of hammer price,
and 12% on the balance thereafter. This applies to each lot purchased and is subject to VAT.

For Motor Cars and Motorcycles a 15% Buyer's Premium is payable on the first £50,000 of the final Hammer Price of each Lot, and 12% on any amount by which the Hammer Price exceeds £50,000. VAT at the standard rate is payable on the Premium by all Buyers, unless otherwise stated.

Some lots may be subject to VAT on the Hammer Price. These lots will be clearly marked with the relevant symbol printed beside the lot number in the catalog.
