1958 Jaguar XK150S 3.4-Litre Roadster
Registration no. MSU 741
Chassis no. T831536DN
Engine no. ZA2745-9
A progressive development of the sensational XK120 and XK140, the XK150 retained the same basic chassis, 3.4-litre engine and four-speed Moss transmission of its predecessors but benefited from an entirely new body providing increased interior space and improved visibility courtesy of a single-piece, wrap-around windscreen. A higher front wing line and broader radiator grille were other obvious differences, but the new model’s main talking point was its Dunlop disc brakes; at last the XK had stopping power to match its prodigious straight-line speed. Introduced in the spring of 1957, the XK150 was available at first only in fixed and drophead coupe forms, the open roadster not appearing until the following year. At 190bhp, the engine’s maximum power was identical to that of the XK140, so performance was little changed. ‘Special Equipment’ and ‘S’ versions came with 210 and 250bhp respectively. Overdrive and automatic transmission were options.
Originally exported to the USA, this restored XK150S subsequently returned to the UK and was first registered here on 1 April 1989. When the previous owner acquired the Jaguar on 1 September 1990 (in a private sale) it had already been converted from left-hand to right-hand drive. The previous owner - a garage proprietor and vintage vehicle collector - used it for classic car rallies, both nationally and locally. It was maintained by one of his workshops and later independently by one former employee using parts sourced from Guy Broad. The vendor was given the car on its previous owner’s death. The chassis number is correct for a XK150S 3.4; however, the engine has been replaced with another 3.4-litre unit and the number stamped on the cylinder head is that of a 3.8-litre engine from a MkX saloon. Finished in white with recently re-trimmed red leather interior, the car is presented in good condition throughout and offered with expired MoTs (2001-2005), Swansea V5 and fresh MoT.
